So today is the day! The WOW guy came and unplugged our cable. My wife and I have been talking about this for a long time. The price of cable is completely dumb and all is does is suck precious time from my day so we're unplugging, sort of. I say "sort of" because truthfully it is only a step in the general direction of truly disconnecting your attention to media. Lets face it...I have over 300 movie titles in my DVD library, we own Netflix, we have a Nintendo Wii Gaming System, our internet is still connected, and we will most likely get a antenna to get local channels at least. To say we are completely free of the time suck is a complete lie, but at least it is a step in the right direction.
Things I Hope to Accomplish While Disconnected from Cable:
- Write more (a book, some more episodes of the television project I'm working on, and in general)
- Spend more time with my wife (talking, playing board games, going on dates, and just being together)
- Indulging in my hobbies (reading comics, writing more letters to celebrities, artists, political figures, and people who inspire me)
- Working out
- Cooking
- Spending more time with my family (immediate and extended)
- Acting/Comedy - Being in more films and performing for more audiences with 'Project 2 Improv'
- Meditating
I don't want to miss out on today because of a 'Alaska State Troopers' marathon anymore! Life is just as exciting as television, if not MORE exciting so I encourage you to try and unplug more often. Chances are you won't miss it.
Have a life-fulfilling day!
