Most of what my cousin had to say was regarding nutritional information. Essentially giving me the REAL scoop on processed foods and the benefits of eating natural, Earth grown goods. Nothing profound but simply changing the way you shop, the way you cook, and the way you treat your body. His roommate David also helped me realize the importance of staying away from bad sugars, grains, and anything that wasn't farmed. Makes perfect sense when you think about it. At first I was thinking that it was going to be hard to switch my throught process about the way I eat but after taking notes about some replacement items that allow me to enjoy eating just as much as I did and tackling grocery shopping. Poof! My wife and I see the value in all this and how important it is to put in the time.
Here is a perfect example. We ate lemon chicken with quinoa and mushrooms. Then we finished it with a green salad, no dressing (just the way I like it).
Then last night my wife made seared halibat with quinoa and spinich. She doesn't like fish but is beginning to see the light and is trying new things. I'm so proud of her. Both of these meals took probably one hour to prepare.
My next step is to be more diligent about making fruit and almond smoothies in the morning with nothing but fresh fruit, almonds, greek yogurt, and sometimes I add some spinich. That will be a great meal replacement but still keep me full. I'm also drinking LOTS of water. Now I just need to tackle the excercise portion of this journey.
